More Than 1,000 Redevelopment Projects Launched Since 2020

Redevelopment activity is spread across different parts of Mumbai, but the Western Suburbs account for a substantial share of the projects and sales.

Borivali, Malad, Andheri, Vikhroli and Goregaon together account for around 36% of redevelopment projects launched since 2020. This means that more than one-third of the redevelopment projects launched during this period are concentrated across these five locations.

The Western Suburbs also accounted for around 35% to 45% of redevelopment launches and sales during 2025 and the first half of 2026, making the region a major contributor to the city’s redevelopment activity during this period.

Mumbai Has 1,202 Active Slum Rehabilitation Projects

Mumbai’s redevelopment activity also includes slum rehabilitation projects. The city currently has 1,202 active slum rehabilitation projects, covering 321,858 hutments spread across 2,156 acres.

Another part of Mumbai’s redevelopment requirement comes from ageing cessed buildings. The city has around 13,500 cessed buildings that require urgent replacement. The Western Suburbs account for 22.4% of these buildings, while South Mumbai accounts for 14.2%.
