Navi Mumbai Civic Body Identifies 34 ‘Highly Dangerous’ Buildings, Urges Residents to Vacate Immediately

The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) has identified 34 buildings and structures under its jurisdiction as “highly dangerous” under the Category C-1 classification and appealed to residents and other occupants to vacate them immediately. The civic body has warned that continued occupation could put lives and property at risk in the event of a collapse.

NMMC has directed that residential and commercial use of the identified structures be stopped immediately. Notices issued to the concerned owners and occupants also call for the buildings to be demolished without delay. The notices warn that occupants who continue to stay in the structures could be held responsible for any damage caused if a collapse occurs.

34 C-1 Structures Identified Across Navi Mumbai

The 34 Category C-1 structures are located in Belapur, Nerul, Vashi, Turbhe, Sanpada, Koparkhairane, Airoli and Digha. Turbhe has the highest number, with 15 structures on the list.

NMMC said owners, occupiers and residents of the identified structures were informed through written instructions and notices. The notices were issued with reference to a government circular dated November 11, 2015, issued by the Urban Development Department.

The civic body has asked occupants to leave the identified structures and comply with the notices. The action comes amid concerns over unsafe buildings following recent collapse incidents in different parts of the Mumbai Metropolitan Region.

NMMC Warns of Water and Electricity Disconnection

NMMC Commissioner Kailas Shinde said the civic body had repeatedly made public appeals through newspapers stating that water and electricity connections to buildings in the C-1 category would be disconnected. He also said NMMC would not be responsible for damage suffered by people who continue to occupy buildings declared unsafe for habitation.

NMMC has urged residents and other occupants to vacate the identified structures immediately and cooperate with the civic administration.
