Pune Civic Body Begins Redevelopment of Old Municipal Housing Colonies

The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) is initiating the process of developing various old and dilapidated housing colonies within municipal housing complexes. The concerned residential houses were constructed many decades ago, and now they need redevelopment due to their deteriorating condition.

PMC’s Bhavan department clarified that the redevelopment project may either be carried out by PMC or in collaboration with private builders by following the BOT approach.

As per officials, these houses come under the category of “C1,” which is said to be the highest risk category concerning old buildings. Recently, structural assessment conducted in these buildings suggested that they should be demolished.

PMC has sent notice to residents residing in these seven municipal housing complexes, telling them to vacate the property for redevelopment purposes. About 1,900 units in total are in poor structural condition, out of which 288 units are prioritized for redevelopment.

According to the civic administration, these homes are occupied by project-affected families who previously handed over their land/property in return for getting resettled in the municipal housing colonies in areas like Pandavnagar, Wakadewadi, Ghorpadi, Ambil Odha, and Sadashiv Peth.

The plan of the civic administration is to relocate these people to another PMC housing complex in Hadapsar and Balewadi areas prior to commencement of redevelopment activities.

After redevelopment, eligible tenants shall be provided with newly developed houses, each measuring 550 square feet.
